Job Description:
As an Equine Surgery Technician at KEAH, you will play a critical role in assisting with equine surgical procedures and ensuring the safety and well-being of patients before, during, and after surgery. You will work closely with veterinarians and veterinary staff in a fast-paced surgical environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Care & Monitoring: Assist with pre-operative and post-operative care, including monitoring patients and supporting recovery.
Surgical Support: Assist veterinarians during surgical procedures by maintaining a sterile field, providing instruments, and monitoring vital signs.
Pre-Surgical Preparation: Prepare the operating room, equipment, and horses for surgical procedures.
Equipment & Supplies: Clean, maintain, and sterilize surgical instruments and equipment according to hospital protocols.
Hospital Maintenance: Maintain cleanliness and organization of surgical and treatment areas.
Communication: Communicate effectively with veterinarians and team members regarding patient status and surgical needs.
Qualifications:
Certification: Veterinary Technician Certification (LVT, RVT, or CVT) preferred; specialized training or certification in equine surgery is a plus.
Experience: Previous experience as a veterinary technician with a focus on equine care and surgery is highly desirable.
Skills: Strong knowledge of equine anatomy, proficiency in surgical assistance, strong organizational and multitasking abilities, and effective communication skills.
Physical Requirements: Ability to lift 50 lbs on a repetitive basis throughout the workday.
